The dignified living and the problems of the elderly inhabitants of the mountainous and not only regions were the main topic of discussion during the Preparatory Session of the 25th Session in the House of Representatives, which was held on Tuesday, November 5 by the Social Welfare Committee of the House of Elders.
According to a statement, the Social Welfare Committee of the House of Elders presented its report for discussion before the members of the Labor, Welfare and Social Insurance Parliamentary Committee, with invited representatives from the competent Ministries of Labor and Social Insurance, Interior, Finance, Education, Sports and Youth and Deputy Ministries of Social Welfare and Research, Innovation and Digital Policy.
As stated, the theme of the report that was presented was "Dignified living of the elderly and a better quality of life, especially of pensioners in the countryside and mountainous areas", where problems of the elderly residents of the said areas as well as problems of the elderly throughout Cyprus were listed.
It is noted that the state representatives informed about their existing actions regarding the requests of the report as well as about those planned to be carried out, while the President and the members of the Parliamentary Committee actively contributed to the completion of the debate resulting in the productive and constructive dialogue between the parties.
The requests of the Social Welfare Committee will be presented in more detail at the 25th Session of the House of Elders in the presence of its 56 deputies, competent bodies and officials, on November 25, 2024 under the Presidency of the President of the House of Representatives, the announcement concludes.
