November 15, 1983 is not just a sad date. It is the attempt to legalize the occupation, but also the registry partition of Cyprus, something we will never allow and will never accept, declares the President of the Republic.
In his written statement condemning the 41st anniversary of the illegal declaration of the pseudo-state, President Christodoulidis notes that "Turkey's multi-year effort to politically and diplomatically legitimize the formation it created and maintains in the occupied territories remains without any basis at all."
As he further emphasizes, "the Republic of Cyprus is the only legal state in Cyprus and the Government of the Republic of Cyprus is the only recognized Authority in the Cypriot territory, which - and this we must never forget - for 20 years has been an integral part of European territory"
The President of the Republic also notes that "illegality does not produce Law".
Today, he says, also serves as a reminder of our heavy duty to work to reverse the facts caused by the illegal Turkish invasion of our country in 1974 and the continued presence of occupation troops for 50 years, in violation of every concept of Law.
President Christodoulidis assures in his written statement that "we remain committed to the effort to create the conditions for the resumption of substantive negotiations for the resolution of the Cyprus issue, with the aim of liberating our country from the occupying troops and its reunification, with respect to international law, to human rights, the principles and values of the European Union".
In addition to international law, he notes, "at the forefront of the effort I am conducting to create the conditions for resolving the Cyprus issue, is the upgraded role of the Republic of Cyprus, as a result of the strategy we are following to consolidate our country as a pillar of stability and security in the particularly important region of the wider Middle East".
As he states, "we are leveraging our European identity, expanding our power factors, increasing our diplomatic footprint and creating strategic synergies that help us operate away from phobic syndromes, in an international environment characterized by instability and uncertainty".
The Republic of Cyprus, he concludes, is the common home of all its legal citizens, Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Maronites, Armenians and Latinos, "for whom we work to ensure conditions of democracy, security and prosperity".
