The President of the Republic, Mr. Nikos Christodoulidis, received today, at the Presidential Palace, the heads of the Diplomatic Missions of the Republic of Cyprus abroad, during which he informed them about the developments in the Cyprus issue and other matters concerning the policies of the Republic of Cyprus in a wide range of issues .
At the start of the meeting, President Christodoulidis, addressing the heads of diplomatic missions, said that "an effort is underway to restart the talks on our own initiative.
Possibly, we will soon have some developments even within August-beginning of September. We are ready."
He also referred to the issue of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the EU in 2026, noting that "we have started preparations, while we also have the MED9 Presidency during which Ministerial Meetings and the Summit of Heads of State will take place in Cyprus".
He also said that "the initiative for the humanitarian corridor to Gaza is also underway, a particularly important issue, because it indicates in practice a goal that we have been trying to highlight in recent years. In conjunction with this are the discussions in the European Commission on the composition of the new Commission, with some new portfolios proposed by the President of the Commission and which are also related to our own effort.
Our discussion today will be substantial", said the President of the Republic.
