The interest of energy giants from the Gulf countries to participate in parts of the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) was revealed by the President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulidis, speaking at the 12th Energy Symposium.
He characterized this interest as a vote of confidence for the prospects of the Cypriot EEZ, mentioning at the same time that there are many other political and diplomatic dimensions.
At the same time, the President mentioned that the processes for exploiting the "Aphrodite" field are progressing intensively and developments are expected in January, while he said that a development plan for the "Kronos" field is also expected and for this purpose he had a telephone conversation with the head of ENI Claudio Descalzi yesterday .
With regard to the Cyprus-Crete electrical interconnection, he said that by the end of the year the Republic of Cyprus will make announcements regarding participation in the share capital of the project, while for the project they are in consultation with both Greece and France as well as the United Arab Emirates. These consultations, he said, aim to create a joint company to participate in the project.
He also said that they are in contact with the USA and discussed with the American President, in their recent meeting, the expression of interest from American investment funds to participate in this project.
Regarding the projects for the natural gas import terminal in Vasilikou, he said that the process of purchasing project manager services from ETYFA is being completed to restart the construction work as soon as possible, while they expect the arrival of the floating unit "Prometheus" by the end of December.
The goal, he said, is to end the Vassilikos issue by the end of 2025.
