The Government has a clear ideological and political framework, which is social liberalism and the choices of individuals, but much more the decisions we make in all sectors reflect this ideological and political framework, said the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, on Tuesday, when asked about reactions that have occurred, especially from the opposition, regarding the issue of reshuffle.
In statements made while attending the General Assembly of the Real Estate Development Association in Nicosia, and when asked about his morning meeting with the President of EDEK, the President of the Republic responded that "everything (is) fine. Among colleagues there are also moments in which there may be different interpretations. The most important thing is to have a free discussion, a free exchange of opinions. All is well. We continue."
Asked about reactions, mainly from the opposition, in relation to the reshuffle and statements that the reshuffle is taking another step towards the far right, the President said, "Did you expect the opposition to say positive things about the reshuffle? I didn't. So I believe that the vast majority of the Cypriot people did not expect the opposition to speak positively about the reshuffle, especially in the current circumstances."
"Our government has a clear ideological and political framework and this is of particular importance, taking into account everything that is being said and heard at the present juncture in view of the parliamentary elections," he said.
This, he continued, "is social liberalism and I am truly glad that our responsible fiscal policy allows us to make targeted social policy, to invest in education, to invest in health, to invest in housing."
And it was with particular satisfaction, said President Christodoulides, "that today, together with the Minister of Interior, we announced two new Plans."
In particular, "the Plan concerning the construction of 500 houses, housing stock in Limassol, Larnaca, Nicosia and Paphos, amounting to 70 million euros, in addition to the state land which is 7 million euros, proving in practice our ideological and political orientation, social liberalism," he noted.
When asked about the choices of individuals, the President said that they reflect social liberalism, the ideological and political framework of the Government.
"We are not, as some said before the election campaign - they said it publicly - a scoundrel," he stressed.
"We are a Government of a specific philosophy, a specific ideological political framework, of social liberalism, and the choices of individuals, but much more the decisions we make in all sectors, reflect this ideological-political framework of the Government." And "it is of great importance, especially heading towards the parliamentary elections and listening to everything we hear," he said.
Asked whether the new Ministers would be ready three weeks before Cyprus takes over the Presidency of the Council of the EU, he replied "of course, fully prepared."
The President of the Republic said that they are already having meetings with the Deputy Minister of European Affairs.
"I started meetings with the Ministers last night. Last night I had a meeting with the Minister of Justice and Public Order, tonight I have a meeting with the Deputy Minister of Social Welfare. In the coming days with all the new members of the Council of Ministers and we are moving forward strongly in this national mission that is a bet. I am sure that we will win it," he concluded.
