Turkey's decision to deploy F-16s in the occupied territories of Cyprus is a reaction to the message sent by Europe that the security of Cyprus is also the security of the EU, said the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, on Monday.

Invited, upon his arrival this morning at the Pancyprian Lyceum of Larnaca to attend an event, to comment on the arrival of Turkish F16s in the occupied territories, the President said that "it is obvious to everyone that this decision of the Turkish Government is a reaction to the message sent by Europe, sent by the EU member states, that the security of Cyprus is also the security of the EU, it is also the responsibility of the EU".

"No matter what they do, no matter what they bring to Cyprus - and let me remind you that there is a significant number of occupation troops and equipment in the occupied areas - Turkey will not cease to be an occupying power in Cyprus," he concluded.
