President Christodoulidis described today's intergovernmental meeting between Cyprus and Greece as historic, following the first one, which took place last November in Athens.
The intergovernmental meeting is attended by 14 Ministers of the Mitsotakis Government, a fact that the President of the Republic pointed out in his statements at their private meeting.
"Both countries had intergovernmental sessions with other states, but we didn't have with each other and so we came with the decision in 2023 to fill an important gap and the most important thing is that there are results, there are deliverables from these sessions, especially on issues that they touch the daily life of the citizen", said the President.
He pointed out that Nicosia has taken know-how from Athens in matters of digital transformation and Cyprus can contribute in the shipping sector, while there are also common aspirations in matters, for example, concerning the prices of medicines.
He stated that the latest developments in the Cyprus issue will be discussed after the meeting that took place in New York and the regional developments, while he also pointed out the meeting held by Mr. Mitsotakis with the Secretary General of NATO yesterday in Athens.
Mr. Mitsotakis referred to the special importance of this second meeting, stating that it has a different character and the results so far are measurable, as the culmination of an excellent bilateral cooperation.
"I look forward to continuing our cooperation in many areas, in digital applications, health, shipping, education and energy," he said. He said that both Governments are distinguished for their reforming mood, for the good of the citizens.
"Cyprus has every reason, especially in matters of economic performance, to be extremely proud of what it has achieved," he said.
Mr. Mitsotakis said that major national issues will be discussed amid geopolitical developments.
"To express my satisfaction that a truce appears to have been reached in Lebanon, which will allow the implementation of an old decision to defuse this regional crisis and turn our attention to achieving a similar truce in Gaza and stop the humanitarian disaster", he said.
He added that Greece and Cyprus are always factors of stability in the wider region and in the case of Greece this is also recognized by its partners in NATO, by its partners in the EU and the US and both countries will always be coordinated to be able to strengthen the public their footprint.
