The belief that the bonds of friendship and cooperation between Cyprus and Lithuania will continue to be strengthened on the basis of their shared commitment to international legitimacy was expressed today by the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, who is making the first visit by a Cypriot President to Vilnius.
The President of the Republic went this morning to the Presidential Palace in Vilnius, Lithuania, where he was received by the country's President Gitanas Nausėda, as part of his visit to the country in view of the Republic of Cyprus assuming the Presidency of the Council of the EU in the first half of 2026.
According to a statement from the Presidency, during the reception, a military band paid tribute, while the National Anthems of Cyprus and Lithuania were played.
Subsequently, the President of the Republic signed the Guest Book of the Presidential Palace, in which he stated that "it is a great honor to be the first President of Cyprus to pay a bilateral visit to the Republic of Lithuania, at the invitation of President Gitanas Nausėda".
He expressed deep appreciation for the warm hospitality and the opportunity to further strengthen the close ties between the two countries.
I am convinced, he said, "that the bonds of friendship and cooperation between our two countries will continue to strengthen, based on our shared commitment to international legitimacy."
"As EU member states, we are united in promoting peace, stability and prosperity for our entire continent, rejecting revisionism and aggression," he noted.
Finally, he expressed sincere wishes for continued prosperity and peace for the Republic of Lithuania and its people.
Afterwards, the two Presidents had a private meeting.
President Christodoulides is accompanied by Deputy Minister for European Affairs Marilena Raouna, Deputy Government Spokesperson Yiannis Antoniou and official officials.
