On Saturday morning, specifically at 10:XNUMX, President Christodoulides will receive the UN Secretary-General's personal envoy for the Cyprus issue, Maria Angela Holguin, who is returning to the island after her reappointment.
On Monday, May 26, again at 10:XNUMX, Ms. Holgin will see Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, according to diplomatic sources.
After contacts with the leaders, the Secretary-General's personal envoy intends to make statements to the media and, according to sources, will provide information about her program and next steps.
It has not been clarified whether she will see the two leaders a second time as part of her presence on the island from May 24 to 31, but it is estimated that this will be determined by the general results of her contacts.
As announced yesterday, Ms. Holguin will be in Cyprus from May 24 to 31, in order to meet with the leaders, their representatives, as well as with others involved in the Cyprus problem.
Ms. Holguin plans to have contacts with all three guarantor powers, Greece, Turkey and the United Kingdom, but it is not yet known when these meetings will take place nor whether she plans to see Johannes Hahn, who has recently been appointed as the special envoy of the President of the European Commission for the Cyprus issue.
The Cyprus issue will be the focus of a meeting between President Christodoulides and the British Prime Minister in London at 7.30pm (Cyprus time) tonight. The latest developments were also discussed yesterday by Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres in New York.
President Christodoulides recently expressed the readiness of the Greek Cypriot side to continue the effort to restart negotiations, declaring himself fully prepared for the meeting with Ms. Holguin.
The negotiator of the Greek Cypriot side, Menelaos Menelaou, also stated in a recent interview with Haravgi that despite the obstacles that still exist due to the positions of the Turkish and Turkish Cypriot sides, the Greek Cypriot side is investing in the arrival of the UN personal envoy.
