The Republic of Cyprus was, is and will continue to be a member state of the Eurozone and the European Union, so any solution to the Cyprus problem must have a strong European sign, stressed the representative of the European Commission, Margaritis Schoinas.

He also stressed that the responsibility for the process lies mainly with the Cypriots and in the wider international context with the United Nations and that the European Union has a joint and decisive, but not exclusive, responsibility.
Mr. Schoinas spoke to the Director of News and Current Affairs, Paniko Hatzipanagi, in the context of the show "Dialogues", which was broadcast from Brussels.
Asked if Brussels shares the UN Secretary-General's view that Crans Montana lacked the political will to resolve the Cyprus issue, Mr. Schoinas clarified that Europe will never play the game of accountability.
At the same time, he assured that the European Union will be present in the talks again as soon as the conditions are restored in a favorable context and the process is repeated. But, he stressed, the United Nations must ask us to do so.
Regarding the status of the British Bases after the United Kingdom left the European Union, Mr. Schoinas expressed the certainty that there will be no dramatic changes in the economic, social, geographical and agricultural situation of the people involved in the Bases.
