The Council of Ministers is proceeding with the termination of the replacement appointment of Anna Aristotelous to the Ministry of Defense and with a recommendation to the National Defense Service for her placement on temporary leave, citing reasons of public interest and following relevant letters from the Cyprus Police.
As stated by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the Council of Ministers, taking into account the content of letters from the Cyprus Police dated 18 and 25 June 2025 and after being informed by the Minister of Defence about the duties performed by Anna Aristotelous as Deputy Director General of the Ministry of Defence, "decided to submit a recommendation to the Public Service Commission (PSC) for the termination of the deputy appointment of Ms. Aristotelous to the Ministry of Defence, with effect from 25 June 2025, for reasons of public interest".
At the same time, he added that "the competent authority, following the above, will submit a recommendation to the EDY that Ms. Anna Aristotelous be placed on leave."
When asked about this, Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis clarified that “Ms. Aristotelous is not a Commissioner but Head of Humanitarian Affairs”. As he stated, “a recommendation will be submitted to the EDY to place her on leave and this will have as a consequence the duties she will exercise as Head of Humanitarian Affairs”.
In response to a question about Ms. Athina Dimitriou, Mr. Letymbiotis replied that "the Audit Service, where she is currently located, is responsible."
