In a joint meeting with the UN Secretary-General's personal envoy for the Cyprus issue, Maria Angela Holguin, upon her return to Cyprus in early December, the President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, and the leader of the Turkish Cypriots, Tufan Erhürman, reached an agreement, according to a United Nations announcement.
According to the statement issued immediately after the meeting of the two leaders at the residence of the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General in the buffer zone in Nicosia, the leaders of the two communities expressed their readiness to work for a new expanded meeting under the leadership of the UN Secretary-General.
Leaving the residence of the Special Representative of the United Nations Secretary-General, and asked by a journalist how the meeting went, President Christodoulides said "very well."
