The body of former President of the Republic George Vassiliou will be placed in public veneration today at the Church of the Holy Mother of God Sophia from 10:00 to 17:00.

Also, today the book of condolences for the death of the former President will be opened.

The book will be opened in the event hall of the Presidential Palace, and in the morning it will be signed by the President of the Republic and the members of the Council of Ministers.

The condolence book will be open for state officials from 10.30 a.m. until 12 noon, while for the diplomatic corps from 12 noon until 3 p.m. In addition, condolence books will be opened at all diplomatic missions of the Republic of Cyprus.

The President of the Republic and the entire Council of Ministers will attend the funeral, which will be held at public expense, on Saturday, January 17 at 1:00 p.m., from the Church of the Holy Mother of God Sophia in Strovolos. The family will receive condolences at the church from 11:30 a.m.

Burial will take place at the Aglantzia Municipal Cemetery.

The day of the funeral, Saturday, January 17, has been declared a public holiday.
