The President of the Republic leaves in the afternoon for Saudi Arabia, at the invitation of King Salman. Tomorrow, he will be welcomed at the Palace by the King, who will then host a formal dinner in his honor. Formal consultations of the delegations of the two countries and signing of agreements will follow.
The President of the Republic will also meet with the Successor to the Throne and with the Secretary General of the Gulf Cooperation Council. President Anastasiadis will be accompanied in Riyadh by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Energy, Defense and Transport and the government spokesman. Saudi Arabia is the 5th country in the Arabian Gulf visited by President Anastasiadis and the most important, due to its position among the Arab world and its power.
The government spokesman described President Anastasiadis' visit to Riyadh as very important both in substance and in symbolism. Recalling that this is the first official visit of a Cypriot President to Saudi Arabia, he said that it is the result of a systematic effort to strengthen relations between the two countries.
Speaking on the show FIRST INFORMATION, he stressed that the visit takes place at a very critical juncture both for the developments within the country itself and for the developments in the region.
He added that the Ministers accompanying President Anastasiadis will also have important meetings with their counterparts.
Mr. Christodoulidis confirmed that energy issues will also be on the agenda, while in relation to investments, he said that there is interest in specific sectors.
Regarding the alliances that Cyprus is developing, Mr. Christodoulidis said that some Gulf countries, which he did not name, have shown interest in participating in trilateral meetings with the Republic of Cyprus.
