The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, will meet this afternoon with the President of Israel, Isaac Herzog, who is making an extraordinary visit to Cyprus, amidst strict security measures and planned protest events.
The meeting is scheduled for 18:00 at the Presidential Palace.
As the KYPE is informed by competent sources, the visit of Mr. Herzog, related to yesterday's intergovernmental Cyprus-Egypt and tripartite Cyprus, Greece, Egypt in Cairo and the developments in the region and especially in Syria.
Developments, the same sources note, which, like the change in US leadership, bring the countries of the region together.
According to the Police, increased security measures will be taken during the visit of the Israeli President. Specifically, from 16:00 p.m. on Thursday until 21:00 p.m. on the same day, there will be intermittent road closures for a few minutes in the Larnaca district, on the Larnaca-Nicosia highway and in the Nicosia district.
In the meantime, protest events have been planned for the visit of Mr. Duke. Specifically, the Pan-Cypriot Peace Council is planning a protest event at 16:00 at the Larnaca airport roundabout and at 16:30 a protest event at the entrance of the Presidential Palace.
The President will see the Israeli President after his arrival from Athens, where he will attend at noon the funeral of the former Greek Prime Minister, Kostas Simitis. The funeral, which is a public expense, will be held in the Metropolis of Athens at 12.00 noon.
