The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, will be the first leader of a country to visit the newly elected President of Lebanon, Joseph Aoun, in Lebanon, where he is traveling today at noon.
In his statements on the sidelines of a seminar organized by Hermes Airports, in Nicosia, the President, after mentioning that last night, after two years, a new President of Lebanon was elected, announced that today at noon he will go to Lebanon to meet with the new President of Lebanon.
"We are the first country to visit Lebanon, so I will go to the country for an hour to meet with the new President, who I know very well, he was the head of the army, and I will go there with my colleagues," he said. .
He added that this is an indication of the effort of the Republic of Cyprus, but also of the recognition of the role of the Republic of Cyprus in facing the current challenges arising in the region, challenges which bring Cyprus even closer.
He expressed his satisfaction that the role that the Republic of Cyprus can play is recognized, especially by the EU.
"We are the member state of the European Union in the region, we have excellent relations with all the neighboring states and within this context the discussions at the Tripartite in Cairo took place. We had the two important visits yesterday and today, as I mentioned to you, I am going to Lebanon to meet the new President of the country," he said.
Regarding his meetings yesterday with the President of Israel and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, President Christodoulidis said that the main subject of discussion in all the meetings was regional developments. As he said, there are some facts, there are some developments that some are trying to take advantage of, to the detriment of the interests of other states in the region.
He added that all other states in the region are coming together to face these challenges. The President emphasized that no one can take advantage of a situation that has arisen to promote timeless historical goals.
"We are in an area, an area of particular geostrategic importance and all the states that have a common approach, we come together precisely to send the appropriate messages, but also through concrete action to prevent anything that would be against the creation of conditions of security and stability in this area," he said.
Asked if anything specific was requested from the Israeli President and the United Arab Emirates Foreign Minister, the President indicated that Thursday's discussions were a continuation of the discussions held in Cairo.
He added that, of course, very specific issues were discussed, but nothing is to be made public.
