Today marks 41 years since the illegal declaration of the pseudo-state in the Turkish-occupied territories of the Republic of Cyprus.
It was November 15, 1983 when Turkey and the then Turkish Cypriot leadership proceeded with the illegal act of declaring the occupied territories of the Republic of Cyprus a "state", which is recognized only by Ankara.
The international community did not recognize this arbitrary action and through a series of resolutions of the UN Security Council not only condemned it but characterized the declaration as legally invalid, calling on all UN member states not to recognize its result.
In Resolutions 541 and 550, the UN Security Council "condemns the attempted secession of part of the Republic of Cyprus, considers this action legally invalid and calls for its withdrawal. At the same time, it calls on all states not to recognize it and to respect the independence, territorial integrity and unity of the Republic of Cyprus. "
The declaration of the pseudo-state was condemned with announcements and proclamations yesterday and today by parties and organizations, while students, parties and others are organizing events.
The illegal declaration of the pseudo-state will be condemned by the occupied municipalities and communities.
At 7 p.m. the Committee of Occupied Municipalities and the Committee of Occupied Communities are holding an event "Memories of Occupied Land" to condemn the declaration of the pseudo-state in 1983 with the main speaker being the President of the Republic in the "Archangelos" Hall of the Holy Monastery of Kykkos.
With events and marches of condemnation, students express their reaction to the proclamation.
At 1100 in the morning the Pan-Cypriot Student Coordinating Committee is holding anti-occupation events to condemn the pseudo-state in all cities. In Nicosia the students will gather in the morning at the wholesale market of the Municipality of Nicosia in Kaimakli and from there they will march towards the roadblock of Mias Milia, while similar events are organized in the other cities.
On the contrary, "celebrations" are held in the occupied territories. The Turkish Vice President, Cevdet Yilmaz, has been in the occupied territories since yesterday to participate in the events for the anniversary of the declaration of the pseudo-state.
