The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis, spoke of a "very productive, very specific discussion" with the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General, Maria Angela Holguin, upon his arrival at the preparatory session of the European People's Party, in Brussels, where he is for to participate in the European Council summit.
President Christodoulidis also announced that upon his return to Cyprus he will convene a session of the National Council to inform the political leaders, stressing that the management of the Cypriot nation needs collective action.
In relation to the EPP session, the PtD announced that in coordination with the Speaker of the Parliament and President of DISY, Annita Dimitriou, who also participates in the EPP session, the inclusion of the Cypriot in the draft announcement on the 10 main priorities was achieved of the EPP for the next five years. President Christodoulidis also referred to the discussion that will take place within the framework of the Summit to determine the names of the leadership of the EU institutions for the next five years. However, he stressed that he hopes there will be an end to the debate on the names for the leadership of the EU, as the European Union faces significant challenges.
Meeting with Holgin
Asked by a journalist about the meeting with Mrs. Holgin, President Christodoulidis said that "I had a very productive, very specific discussion with the Secretary General's personal envoy". As he said, "a lot was said" and "very specific views" were exchanged.
"Upon my return to Cyprus, I will convene the National Council, to inform the leaders of the parliamentary parties, to share with them my thoughts on the next steps" that must be taken together "because it is only through the collective we can on the one hand achieve national goals, but also face any challenges".
