A protest gathering outside the Turkish embassy in London was held on Wednesday night by dozens of expatriates, responding to the request of the Famagusta Association. Vassiliou for condemning the unilateral proclamation of the pseudo-state shortly before turning 41 years old.
In a speech he made as part of the gathering, the President of the Famagusta Association, Dr. Vassilis Mavrou, pointed out the condemnation of the unilateral declaration by Security Council resolutions.
He added that "Turkey and Erdogan are pushing for two states and threatening to annex the occupied territories to Turkey, torpedoing every effort to resolve the Cyprus issue and reunify the island, against the decisions of the United Nations and Community law."
Dr. Mavrou also spoke about the transfer of thousands of settlers from Turkey to the occupied territories with the aim of altering the demographic character of Cyprus, speaking of a "policy of national cleansing".
