The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, will chair a meeting of the National Council on Friday morning at the Presidential Palace, where he will inform political leaders about the latest developments in the Cyprus problem.
The meeting, which is scheduled for 10.00:XNUMX, follows the visit of UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo to Cyprus and her statements that she looks forward to the expanded meeting in March, while conveying the UN Secretary-General's commitment to help both sides move forward.
For his part, President Christodoulides had said that he would convey specific proposals to the UN official for the way forward and mainly to ensure a successful outcome when the Secretary-General decides to convene the expanded meeting.
"We are ready to participate. For us, the current status quo cannot be a solution to the Cyprus problem and as time passes the situation is getting worse and worse," he said, while yesterday he stated that he is awaiting information from Ms. DiCarlo about her contacts.
After Nicosia, Ms. DiCarlo visited Athens and Ankara where she had meetings with Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister Mehmet Kemal Bozai, respectively.
