Ersin Tatar said he received a phone call from the UN "just yesterday" with the expectation that they would be seated at the negotiating table in September.
According to the GTP, the Turkish news agency Ankara Anatolia reported that speaking yesterday on the sidelines of a meeting with businessmen in Bartin, northern Turkey, E. Tatar reiterated that in Cyprus there are two separate peoples and two separate states.
“Just yesterday we received a phone call from the United Nations. They had high expectations, he says, to bring us to the table in September. We are in consultation with the President of Turkey, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and the valuable bureaucrats of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. There will never be a retreat from our policy," he said. He went on to say that he replied that "we will only sit at the negotiating table with the confirmation of our sovereign equality and statehood. Therefore, this is what we are waiting for now."
If this is confirmed, he said, "with direct trade, direct flights, direct contacts, the lifting of all kinds of inexorable embargoes and restrictions from us and with the confirmation of our state alone, we can enter into a process again there for a fair, permanent and sustainable solution to the Cyprus problem, as our President says". Without confirmation of those, he said, "we will never go back to where we were, zero troops, zero guarantees, when federation talks were last going on in 2017, according to them."
According to Mr. Tatar, "the tdvk is the state of the Turkish Cypriots and this state was not founded as a joke. This state is the expression of the independence and freedom of the Turkish Cypriots and is recognized by Turkey and is an observer member of the Organization of Turkish States. Therefore, he said, “the message that this fact will not change with the gradual recognition of our existence is very important. The important thing is to maintain this until the end. At the negotiating tables, they may take you to different places. We are actually continuing a process of diplomacy without being at the negotiating table. We demand that our sovereignty be recognized in order to sit at the negotiating table. This is our most natural right," he added.
He also said that Turkey is not going to leave the Eastern Mediterranean, where the world's eyes are always on geostrategic and geopolitical developments. "It is not enough that we want our own separate state as Turkish Cypriots. The capabilities and strength of the Turkish Cypriots are clear. But the fact that the guarantor motherland, motherland Turkey, which is only 40 miles from this geography, said 'two states', has tipped the scales and balances to a completely different point. Once we get to that stage, there is no going back and there shouldn't be."
He argued that the sea is also home and that there are rights and justice in the sea. "These three homelands together, the small homeland (SS: the pseudo-state), the mother homeland and the blue homeland, represent our strength and dynamism in the Eastern Mediterranean, and therefore the principles and some dynamics to be a great and strong nation in the future. Therefore, when we say tdvk, it is not only us who live there, the Turkish Cypriot people. We are a heart in this way, but our main strength is to support the Turkish Republic," he concluded.
