The opening of a roadblock in Louroudzina was first proposed today at a meeting with President Christodoulides by Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar, saying that they will meet again next week.
In statements in Turkish after the leaders' meeting at Mr. Stewart's residence, Mr. Tatar said that there is a "series of difficulties in the Pyroios area. I mentioned that in addition to Mia Milia, a roadblock may be opened in Louroudzina."
Regarding the proposal for a passage to Kokkina, Mr. Tatar said that it is a military area and such a thing is not possible. He also mentioned that they will have a new meeting with President Christodoulides and will discuss "the issue of Pyla."
Speaking in English and asked how the meeting was, Ersin Tatar said they had a constructive discussion. "We care about our people, we have to make an effort, because there are 8 million crossings per year. This is a significant number, so it is our responsibility to make the lives of these Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots easier, it is a big responsibility. I have put all this to my friend Nikos. We have to do something positive to make life easier for all these people."
Responding to another question, the Turkish Cypriot leader said that he went to the meeting to discuss crossings and not transit corridors. Kokkina, he said, is a military area, so it is difficult.
