The dinner, hosted by UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for participants in the informal expanded meeting on the Cyprus issue, was held in a friendly atmosphere, Ersin Tatar told the Cyprus Group envoy.
As reported by the website Kipris, the Turkish Cypriot leader said in his statements that he is in New York with a constructive and decisive attitude and thanked the UN Secretary General for hosting these meetings.
Ersin Tatar stressed the importance of the meeting that will take place today, stating that he is coming to it to protect and defend the interests, benefits and rights of the Turkish Cypriot "people. The interests of my people come first," he said.
Finally, he stated that after the end of the plenary session, he will "evaluate" the outcome of the informal session in both the international, Turkish Cypriot and Turkish press and then depart for occupied Cyprus.
Moreover, as reported in the occupied territories, Ersin Tatar was accompanied to the dinner by his special representative, Güneş Onar.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, as stated in a statement issued on the subject by the "presidency", was accompanied at the dinner by Rosemary DiCarlo, UN Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs and Peacebuilding, and Maria Angela Holguin, Personal Envoy of the UN Secretary-General.
The dinner, organized at two separate tables, was attended by the UN Secretary-General, Assistant Secretary-General Rosemary DiCarlo and Personal Envoy Maria Angela Holguin, along with Ersin Tatar, President of the Republic Nikos Christodoulides, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan, Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis and British Foreign Secretary for Europe and North America Stephen Dowty.
At the other table were the leaders' Special Representatives, Güneş Onar and Menelaos Menelaou, the Head of the UN Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus, Colin Stewart, the Turkish Deputy Foreign Minister, Mehmet Kemal Bozai, the Greek Deputy Foreign Minister, Alexandra Papadopoulou, and the British High Commissioner, Michael Tatum.
