The immigration measures have brought positive results, the Minister of the Interior, Konstantinos Ioannou, said on Monday, pointing out, however, "external factors" that influence the issue.

In his statements before the start of a regional meeting with Presidents of Community Councils of the Paphos District, in the building of the Community Council of Mesogi, Mr. Ioannou was asked about the issue and stated that "with immigration everything can change from one day to the next. So far it seems that the measures are having results, but since we also depend on external factors, we expect in the next days or weeks to see what will happen."

He pointed out, however, that so far the results are positive.

We see, he continued, "a reduction, significant, in arrivals. As far as returns are concerned, we are continuing at the same pace and in the last month more than 1000 people have returned back to their countries. We continue with the same pace of returns and constantly evaluate the measures".

In addition, Mr. Ioannou noted that they are waiting for information regarding the issue with Lebanon "so everything is being evaluated".
