Next Tuesday, President Anastasiades hands over the reins of the state

February 28 is the last day of the President of the Republic Nikos Anastasiadis in the highest office of the Republic of Cyprus, Andreas Iosif, Director of the Press Office of the President of the Republic, says in a written statement, since after ten years in the government of the country he will hand over the reins of the state to the newly elected President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulidis.

Next Tuesday, February 28, at 11:30 in the morning, President Anastasiades will attend the special session of the House of Representatives for the installation ceremony of the newly elected President of the Republic.

Upon completion of the ceremony, President Anastasiades will return to the Presidential Palace, where the presidential couple will welcome the new President and the First Lady. After the meeting they will have at the Office of the President of the Republic, President Christodoulidis will see off President Anastasiades, who will leave the Presidential Palace.

In the statement, it is stated that President Anastasiades is the seventh President of the Republic of Cyprus. It is added that he was elected for the first time in 2013 and re-elected in 2018. "During his ten-year administration, he managed three major crises, the economic, the health crisis and, in the last year, the consequences of the Russian invasion of Ukraine, while important reforms were implemented such as the NHS, the Minimum Guaranteed Income and the reduction of military service" is noted.

During the decade, the announcement continues, "attempts to resolve the Cyprus issue have been continuous and uninterrupted, however, all efforts have come up against the intransigent and negative attitude of the other side."

He emphasizes that the Anastasiades Government is leaving its legacy to the Cypriot citizens. This is the "Cyprus - Tomorrow" Plan, which is expected to add an additional percentage of 7% to the Gross Domestic Product, while the creation of more than 11 thousand well-paid jobs is also foreseen. The benefits that will result from the implementation of the Plan will be for all citizens, regardless of party affiliation.

During his Presidency, Nikos Anastasiadis received a series of honors from heads of state and government. President Anastasiades, he adds, also received honors from religious leaders, while four higher educational institutions awarded him an honorary doctorate.
