The White House issued a presidential decree authorizing the provision of defense supplies and services to the Republic of Cyprus, noting that this action will enhance the security of the United States and promote world peace.
US President Joe Biden, acting under the authority granted to him by the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 and the Arms Export Control Act, has directed the Secretary of State to notify Congress and publish the decision in the United States Government Gazette.
"By authorization of the authority vested in me as President by the Constitution and the laws of the United States, including section 503(a) of the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961 and section 3(a)(1) of the Arms Export Control Act, I hereby determine that the provision of defense goods and services to the Republic of Cyprus will enhance the security of the United States and promote world peace," the White House statement said.
It also notes to the Secretary of State that "you are authorized and required to transmit this decision and the accompanying memorandum of reasons to the Congress and to publish the decision in the United States Government Gazette."
