The Navtex issued by the Republic of Cyprus on plot 5 is located in an area “outside the jurisdiction” of Turkey, according to sources in the Turkish Ministry of Defense quoted in Turkish media, which however report that Ankara is closely monitoring the activities. The same sources report that the issue is being evaluated in all its dimensions and when the time comes, the steps “that need to be taken” will be taken.
Turkish Ministry of Defense sources specifically state that “the naval notice issued by the Greek Cypriot administration of southern Cyprus” – as reported in the Republic of Cyprus – “is located outside our area of maritime jurisdiction and 11,5 miles, approximately 22 kilometers south. In this context, we are closely monitoring the activities of the ship in question, which began on January 19, 2025.”
“The defense of the rights and interests of our country and the TRNC will continue” – as the pseudo-state states – “with determination and any violation against our continental shelf will be prevented immediately in the field”, the same sources state. “Our state knows more than anyone else. It assesses the issue in all its dimensions and determines the steps that need to be taken. When the time comes, it will take these steps”, they conclude.
