The organization of the third group of the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 in Cyprus constitutes a first-class opportunity to promote our country, both as a tourist destination and as a destination for organizing sports events, states the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Costas Koumis, in view of the holding of the third group matches from August 28 to September 4 at the "Spyros Kyprianou" sports center in Limassol, according to a press release from the Cypriot EuroBasket 2025 Organizing Committee.
"It is with great joy and satisfaction that we are hosting the FIBA Eurobasket 2025 in our country and in Limassol. This is a very special event, which is expected to attract the interest of millions of viewers, and certainly constitutes a first-class opportunity to promote our country, both as a tourist destination and as a destination for organizing sports events," says Mr. Koumis.
As stated in the press release, Cyprus is expected to receive a five-digit number of foreign visitors, which clearly boosts tourism and local businesses. In addition, images from the Limassol stadium will not only go around the world via television (ed. it is expected to reach or even exceed 300 million viewers since the previous EuroBasket in 2022), but also from social media.
"The arrival of five high-level national teams, the participation of over 80 athletes and attendants competing at the highest European and international level, as well as the arrival of hundreds of visitors to our country to watch this great event up close, are confirmation of its high level," says Mr. Koumis, who also notes the first historic participation of the Cyprus National Team in the event. "The participation of our own national basketball team is also a special honor for our country," he emphasizes.
Moreover, for days now, and as the first jump ball approaches even more, Limassol has been living to the rhythm of EuroBasket, while throughout the duration of the event, the Fan Zone will operate at the Old Port of Limassol, where visitors will be able to experience the magic of EuroBasket in an alternative way, with various entertainment events and viewing all the FIBA EuroBasket 2025 games on television.
It is noted that the foreign journalists who will be on the island to cover the Group C matches will be given a tour of Lefkara on Monday, September 1, where they will come into contact with local delicacies and Cypriot culture.
"By the way, I would like to reiterate that sports tourism, as a special form of tourism, is a priority for the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, which is why we actively support the FIBA Eurobasket 2025, as well as other sports events that are expected to be organized in our country in the coming months," notes the Deputy Minister of Tourism.
He also expresses his congratulations to "those who contributed to the arrival of this specific event in our country, especially the President and the Board of Directors of the Cyprus Basketball Federation, but also to those who work for the successful hosting of the event."
