Our goal is to complete today the registration of the damages suffered by farmers from Saturday's storm, so that the compensation process can begin as soon as possible, said the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Maria Panagiotou.
In her statements in Limassol, on the sidelines of the 3rd Conference of the World Agricultural Union, the Minister said that "our priority is to support the agricultural and livestock sector in practice" and added that "wanting our farmers to immediately return to their normality, as of yesterday we have the crews outside, are echelons of the Department of Agriculture and Veterinary Services, where they proceed with the recording of the damages".
"Our goal is, today to complete the recording of the damages and tomorrow for the declarations to come out so that the process can begin, as it falls under the framework of risk management, so that they can receive the compensations from the relevant fund", he added.
We want, he continued, "within November, i.e. in the next few days, to go to the Council of Ministers to approve the amounts and for the process to proceed as directly and quickly as possible".
Asked if there is any limitation on the amount of compensation, Ms. Panagiotou stated that there is always a methodology and "an entire regulation that is described within the context and this will be followed".
He indicated, at the same time, that "what interests us is that the facilities are legal and the whole procedure is followed, our farmers know it".
"What we want now is to finish today, to be there by their side and we are there by their side, to record the damages and start the process as soon as possible", the Minister of Agriculture concluded in her statement.
