The Ministry of Defense has proceeded with the receipt of two helicopters, as part of the provision of aircraft to meet firefighting needs for the current fire season.
According to the Spokesperson of the Ministry of Defense, Christos Pieris, the receipt of the two helicopters took place within the framework of an agreement signed with a contractor company for the purposes of leasing the said assets.
As he noted, the relevant contract is temporary in nature and will be renewed on a monthly basis until the pending tender process for aircraft, which is being processed by the General Accounting Office, is completed.
Mr. Pieris added that in the next ten days, the receipt of two more helicopters is expected, to meet the target of a total of 11 "war-ready" aerial firefighting vehicles that are planned to be available during the fire season.
