The high rhythms and challenges of the modern era necessitate the presence of religious ministers in the army, said the Minister of Defence, Vassilis Palmas, in a greeting at the conference organized on Thursday morning in Nicosia by the Directorate of Religious Affairs of the Greek Defense Ministry on the topic "The presence of religious ministers in the army pastorally and over time".

Mr. Palmas noted that the contribution of religious ministers to the military "certainly represents a deeper moral and spiritual bond, which runs through military life and provides our military personnel with mental strength, moral support and hope in important moments of life and service their".

Referring to historical evidence, the Minister of Defense pointed out that "the relationship between the military and religion has existed since ancient times."

Afterwards, he said that "the pastoral ministry of religious ministers in the army is of inestimable importance", adding that "faith acts as a refuge and a source of hope".

"The priest, as a spiritual father, stands next to the military personnel, providing, when necessary, advice in moral dilemmas and mental trials," he said, emphasizing that "his blessings and prayers provide our officers and soldiers with the necessary moral aid".

"Our soldiers, through the educational aspect of their role and the religious guidance, are taught moral values ​​and a sense of duty to their country and fellow soldiers," emphasized Mr. Palmas.

As he said, "religion in this case functions as a moral guide, cultivating a sense of solidarity, loyalty and justice."

Furthermore, the Minister of Defense noted that the high pace and challenges of the modern era necessitate the presence of religious ministers, pointing out that "their role takes on particular importance in an era in which religious diversity is an element of the military forces".

"The presence of religious ministers in the military has deep roots and timeless value. Their moral, spiritual and psychological support to the personnel is unquestionable, and their contribution to the cohesion of the army remains significant," he concluded.
