This school year begins with specific emphases and priorities, improvements and challenges, and our concern is to facilitate your work in the classroom and school, says the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth (YPAN), Athena Michaelidou, in her written statement for the start of the new school year 2025-2026, addressed to all of you who are on the front lines of education every day.
Ms. Michaelidou notes that, among other things, supportive actions for educational materials, training and pedagogical empowerment have already been launched. Staffing issues were planned in a timely manner and per school, so as to minimize difficulties and not affect your work. At the same time, important infrastructure projects are being implemented with priority on the safety of children and staff, she says.
Wishing you a good, creative and productive year with health, strength and inspiration, she emphasizes that the teacher is the cornerstone of every effort for change.
"That is why, as a State and as the Ministry of Education, Sports and Youth (MEY), we are consistently investing in the improvement of our educational system, upgrading, empowering you and fully respecting your work and mission. Only together, the Ministry and teachers, can we move forward with common steps for the good of our children and for the modern school that our country deserves," he adds.
He notes that he knows that everyday school life is lively and full of challenges. “The Ministry of Education is by your side, ready to listen and resolve any issue that arises, through honest dialogue and cooperation with both you and the educational organizations. Because only through dialogue can we provide solutions and build trust,” he points out.
“With unity, determination and mutual respect we can move forward. We are already on a common path, where education reform is becoming a reality for the benefit of all our children. Have a good school year with inspiration, strength and creativity!”, concludes the Ministry of Education.
