We are moving forward with changes towards the modern school, says on Monday the Minister of Education, Sports and Youth, Athina Michailidou in her post, noting that Education is a priority for the Government.

Ms. Michailidou, in her post on the "X" platform, lists changes and actions that are expected to be implemented from the new school year 2024-25.

"We are moving forward with changes towards the modern school. Education is a priority for the Government", says the Minister.

The changes, according to what Mrs. Michailidou cites, concern a limitation in the necessary material, an increase in full-day schools, an increase in chaperones for children with special needs, an emphasis on pre-school education, the introduction of new subjects such as financial literacy, counseling and vocational training from in the 6th grade, emphasis on the cultivation and promotion of the Greek language, emphasis on skills/abilities, instead of only on knowledge and emphasis on formative assessment of the student.

Also included is the strengthening of programs to prevent and deal with violence and delinquency, and a pilot program of alternative education for students with extreme delinquent behavior.

The actions also relate to starting a dialogue on special/unified education legislation, digitalization of education, starting a dialogue on the evaluation of teachers as well as on the list of appointees, autonomy of the school unit, increased guarding of schools with security guards and cameras, gradual installation of air conditioners, and promoting a strategic plan for Higher Education.
