Ministry of Foreign Affairs for pseudo-state anniversary: ​​Emphasizes readiness for negotiations

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expressed today in a statement on the anniversary of the illegal and unilateral declaration of the pseudo-state the readiness to resume negotiations to find a sustainable and lasting solution to the Cyprus problem on the basis of the Bizonal, Bicommunal Federation with political equality.

In the announcement, it is pointed out that today marks 40 years since the illegal declaration of the separatist entity in the areas of Cyprus occupied by Turkey with the continuation of the violation of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Cyprus, as well as international legality and the principles on which the Charter of the United Nations (UN).

Despite Turkey's efforts to legitimize the actions of the illegal invasion and continued occupation of Cyprus, "the international community remains steadfastly committed to the content of Resolutions 541 (1983) and 550 (1984) of the UN Security Council, which unequivocally condemn the separatist and this unilateral action is legally invalid", it states. The UN Security Council, notes the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, "since then calls on all states to respect the sovereignty, independence, territorial integrity and unity of the Republic of Cyprus and not to recognize the separatist entity. The only sad exception of flagrant contempt for the Resolutions remains, until today, Turkey".

He further emphasizes that "we repeat once again that we will never accept the achievements of the occupation, nor will any attempts to legitimize the partition of our homeland be accepted." He adds that "the Republic of Cyprus will continue to do everything possible to deal with the efforts to upgrade the separatist entity and any actions that are contrary to international law".

At the same time, he adds, "we remain firmly committed to the reunification of Cyprus and its people in accordance with international law, the Resolutions of the UN Security Council, the Community acquis and the principles and values ​​on which the European Union (EU) is based . We are working for a liberated and reunited country, free from foreign occupation and intrigues, with full restoration of the rights and freedoms of all Cypriots".

Reiterating "our readiness to resume negotiations to find a sustainable and lasting solution to the Cyprus problem on the basis of a Bizonal, Bicommunal Federation with political equality, as provided by the relevant Resolutions of the UN Security Council", the Foreign Ministry notes that a comprehensive solution that will " fulfills the expectations of the entire Cypriot people, Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots, for the reunification of our homeland and a peaceful and European future of prosperity for all citizens of Cyprus within the EU which must be our common destination".
