Two energy agreements are being signed today in Cairo concerning the "Aphrodite" field and block 6 of the Cypriot Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The President of the Republic, Nikos Christodoulides, will be in the Egyptian capital to attend the signing ceremony of the two agreements and to meet with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, with whom they will also discuss bilateral developments and regional relations.
According to a written statement by Government Spokesperson Konstantinos Letymbiotis, the signing ceremony for the two energy agreements concerning the “Aphrodite” field and block 6 of the Cyprus Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) will take place on the sidelines of the Egypt Energy Show “Energy Show (EGYPES) 2025” organized by the Egyptian Government. A number of companies operating in the energy sector will participate in it. A bilateral meeting will be held between President Christodoulides and the President of Egypt Abdel Fattah al-Sisi on the sidelines of the exhibition.
President Christodoulides, who will be accompanied by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs Konstantinos Kompos, Energy, Trade and Industry George Papanastasiou, the Government Spokesperson, the Director of the Presidential Diplomatic Office Doros Venezis, and the Director of the Hydrocarbons Service Stelios Nikolaidis, will proceed after his arrival in Cairo to the Al-Manara Conference Center, where he will be welcomed by President Sisi.
A bilateral meeting between the two Presidents will follow, in the presence of the delegations of the two countries.
In addition to the field of energy cooperation, the meeting is also expected to address regional developments and bilateral relations between Cyprus and Egypt.
Afterwards, the President of the Republic will attend the opening ceremony of the "EGYPES 2025" Energy Exhibition.
After the opening ceremony, in the presence of the President of the Republic, the President of Egypt and the Deputy Prime Minister of Italy, the Agreement and the Memorandum will be signed. On behalf of the Republic of Cyprus, the Minister of Energy will sign.
Specifically, as reported, a Host Government Agreement will be signed for the development of the hydrocarbons of Block 6, while a Memorandum of Understanding will also be signed between the Republic of Cyprus, Egypt and the Licensee (Chevron Cyprus Limited, NewMed Energy LP, BG Cyprus Limited) regarding the development of the "Aphrodite" field.
Following the signing ceremony, the Presidents of Cyprus and Egypt and the Deputy Prime Minister of Italy will visit a number of exhibition pavilions, including the pavilion of the Republic of Cyprus, before President Christodoulides departs for Cyprus.
Moreover, on Monday afternoon, the Minister of Energy will take part in a Ministerial Roundtable Discussion, within the framework of EGYPES 2025, on the topic of energy security and industrial competitiveness, while on the same day and on Tuesday, he is scheduled to have a series of meetings with companies active in the energy sector. The Minister of Energy returns to Cyprus on Wednesday, 19 February.
