Online Kıbrıs Postası writes that Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar revealed his intention to run for the upcoming "presidential elections" in the occupied territories while answering questions from journalists during a breakfast he hosted for them on Saturday.
Noting that he is healthy and has good brakes, Tatar argued that he has enough experience and will again run for the so-called presidency.
"The Turkish Cypriots exist and will continue to exist," Tatar said, adding that they will continue their efforts to overcome the so-called injustices against the Turkish Cypriots and the so-called anachronistic embargoes and isolation imposed on them.
Reiterating again the importance of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan putting the Turkish Cypriot policy on the agenda at the 77th and 78th UN General Assembly, Tatar said it strengthened their policy that Erdogan said the embargoes are anachronistic and have the character of tyranny and how they conflict with the principles of the states of the world.
Noting that the voice of the Turkish Cypriots alone can be heard up to a certain point, Tatar said that "southern Cyprus", as he put it, and its allies are trying to block the meetings and contacts organized by the Turkish Cypriot Organization. States for the Turkish Cypriots.
He argued that the mentality of the other side is that Turkish Cypriots do not deserve recognition and that it is trying to isolate Turkish Cypriots from the world and silence them.
The agreement must be after free negotiation
Referring to the basic parameters and customs of the United Nations, Tatar said that if there is to be an agreement in Cyprus, the basic concepts are that it must be "Freely Negotiable" and "Acceptable", i.e. after free negotiation and approved by the two sides.
Repeating the claim that in Cyprus there are two separate peoples, two separate structures and two separate democracies, Tatar argued that essentially the Turkish Cypriot "people" continue on their way with their own "state" since 1963.
He said that on November 15 they will celebrate the 40th anniversary of the declaration of their "state", but the foundation of the "state" was laid on December 21, 1963. He claimed that the Turkish Cypriots were driven out by force of arms from the Republic of Cyprus and forced to build their own their future. He also supported the following:
"We are actually in our 60th year. That is, we were partners for three years in the Republic of Cyprus, founding partners. Therefore, the self-government past of the Greek Cypriots is not older than ours. Before us is the English colonial administration. Before 1878 it was the administration of the Ottoman state for 350 years. Therefore, the state experience of the Greek Cypriot administration in these lands is no greater than ours. We are at least as experienced as they are with the perception of public administration in this country."
Reiterating the position that the negotiations on the Cyprus issue have been going on since 1968 without any results, Tatar called the statement of the former British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw, who claimed that he was wrong and regretted that he signed the " unilateral accession of the Greek Cypriots to the European Union", as he characterized the accession of the Republic of Cyprus to the EU, adding that they were deceived and wronged the Turkish Cypriots.
Aliyev wants to come occupied on July 20, 2024
Stating that he is under severe criticism at this time, Tatar said that they are going everywhere and conducting contacts even informally, trying to explain the sensitivities and attitude of the Turkish Cypriots.
Describing their contacts in Azerbaijan as a turning point, Tatar said that the visit had been planned in the past, but it was not possible to carry it out because they experienced some pressures and difficulties.
He said that after Azerbaijan's victory in Nagorno-Karabakh, they went to Azerbaijan by official invitation with a delegation of 200 people, which he called important.
He claimed that he was treated as a "head of state" and that interest and hospitality were shown in the "highest protocol".
Describing the meeting with the President of Azerbaijan as very sincere, Tatar said that Aliyev's mention is very important that together with Turkey they will continue their struggle to promote the recognition of the "TRNC".
He reiterated that he had invited Aliyev to the 50th anniversary of the invasion on July 20, 2024 and that he had received the answer "God first we will come", arguing that all this will help to slowly recognize the "TRNC" in the world.
He does not accept the appointment of a special envoy
Stating that they faced all the pressures on how to start talks and negotiations on the Cyprus issue and put their "new policy" on track, Tatar reiterated that it is not possible to start formal negotiations without the recognition of their sovereign equality and equal international status.
"As much as the south and the countries of the west try to drag us to the table, our position is clear," he said and added: "We have accepted that we will no longer talk on the basis of the federation, because after the Annan Plan and the Crane In Montana we have absolutely no hope that a federal agreement will result."
Referring to the discussions on the appointment of an envoy ("envoy"), Tatar said: "We had also emphasized when it was put on the agenda two years ago that we would not accept the notion of starting negotiations in a federal framework with the appointment of a so-called 'special envoy' and he will be able to be an interlocutor with the Security Council and surpass the Secretary General. We want to emphasize that from here as well."
Arguing that negotiations can take place by reaching common ground, Tatar reiterated the claim that if there is to be an agreement, it will be with the cooperation of two states and added: "Our position is clear, everything is clear with the support of Turkey . We are trying to continue this stability. First God will support this policy of ours a stronger front in the Organization of Turkish States".
Noting that the value of the "TRNC" is increasing daily, Tatar pointed out that it is not only the territory of the island when one refers to Cyprus, but also the rights and justice in the maritime jurisdictional zones, territorial waters, exclusive economic zone and "blue homeland".
Arguing that in 2023 Cyprus acquired a completely different geostrategic and geopolitical position, Tatar claimed that the "TRNC" is important for the stability of the region and national security, but also for the Greek-Turkish balance.
Noting that the founding agreements of Cyprus state that it cannot join any organization that Greece and Turkey are not members of together, Tatar said that "southern Cyprus", as he put it, joined the EU of which it is not a member Turkey.
Underscoring the importance of the two-state policy for the future and political stability of the region, Tatar said that Turkish Cypriots are not alone in this policy and that it is not difficult to see what happened to them when they were alone.
Noting that they are marching together with Turkey in their new policy, Tatar added: “Our new policy is a national affair that coincides with Turkey and is common. Turkey's point of view is clear, there is no going back."
Referring to the wars that exist in the world and the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Tatar said that anything can happen at any time and it is no longer correct to say that "there will be no war from now on" and that "peace in Cyprus cannot be prevented."
