The Nicosia Permanent Criminal Court found former Speaker of the House Dimitris Syllouris and former MP and businessman Christakis Tziovanis innocent in the case linked to the so-called "golden passport" scandal and the Al Jazeera report.
The majority decision, spanning 180 pages, was announced on Tuesday shortly after 10:00 in the morning in a packed courtroom, in the presence of a crowd of relatives, associates and friends of the two defendants.
The two former officials faced charges related to the crimes of conspiracy to defraud the Republic and influencing a public official in violation of the Law, which ratifies the Council of Europe Convention on the Criminalization of Corruption.
The reading of the decision lasted over an hour and a half.
The process continues as the minority decision will be read.
