The Council of Ministers approved a new emergency package of measures for the water sector, as the situation at the dams remains tragic despite the rainfall.
Minister of Agriculture Maria Panagiotou said that the inflows into the dams so far are only two million cubic meters, that is, zero.
Speaking to Trito, he said that the cabinet yesterday approved a new package of measures worth 31 million euros, with total projects exceeding 200 million euros.
The Government's goal, he said, is to have a total of 9 new desalination units operating by the end of 2026.
He said that in the last year and a half, two desalination units have been constructed, a third will be completed next month, and a fourth is expected to be completed in March.
Mrs. Panayiotou emphasized that in order to achieve the goal, everyone must personally reduce water consumption by 10%, that is, two minutes less running water per day. Farmers have already been informed that the quantities of water they will receive this year will be reduced by 30% compared to last year.
