The Council of Ministers approved proposals by the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment for financial aid to the rural world with funds exceeding €17 million, to deal with the damage suffered by adverse weather conditions, drought, and other severe weather phenomena .
The first decision concerns the approval of the payment of aid totaling €16,5 million to affected farmers for damages suffered due to the lack of rain, but also the prolonged heat during 2024.
With the decision, support is provided to 9.000 producers which is distributed as follows: Cereals and dry fodder crops amounting to €10,5 million. to 3.300 beneficiaries, and for Abelia an amount of €6 million. to 5.700 beneficiaries.
The above amounts will be paid by the Agricultural Production Protection and Insurance Fund, whose reserve will increase by €10,5 million. with an additional contribution from the state.
Also, the Council of Ministers approved the payment of aid through the National Framework, as well as De minimis aid through Regulation 1408/2013 for damages caused by adverse weather conditions in citrus fruits, winter potatoes, mespils, olives and avocados, deciduous, as well as damage from stray dogs. The total amount of aid amounts to approximately €570.000 and concerns a total of 221 beneficiaries.
In addition, the Council of Ministers approved the payment of financial assistance, of a maximum total amount of €350.000, in the form of minor aid, as assistance to cover damages to agricultural and livestock holdings, due to the tornado, which occurred on October 21, 2024, and the storm, which took place on November 02, 2024, in the Districts of Limassol and Paphos.
It is noted that these aids will be paid from the regular Budget of the Department of Agriculture and from savings of the Ministry of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment and/or its Departments.
