1806: Napoleon Bonaparte and his army are triumphantly entering Berlin.

1822: Two warships and two Fishermen's torpedoes attack the Turkish fleet in the port of Tenedos. Firefighter Konstantinos Kanaris blows up the Turkish submarine, causing huge losses to the Turks.

1829: Tsar Nicholas I sends 6.000 rifles and 12 cannons to Greece to reinforce the newly formed Greek Army, at the request of Kapodistrias.

1833:  The Court of Auditors, one of the three highest courts in Greece, is established.

1904: New York's subway opens.

1922:  Benito Mussolini's coup to seize power in Italy. Thousands of members of the Fascist Party are gathering outside the Italian capital. Liberal Prime Minister Luigi Fakta declares the city in a state of emergency. King Victor Emmanuel III does not ratify the Decree. In two days, Mussolini will be appointed governor.

1923: In Greece, the movement of Metaxas, Leonardopoulos, Gargalidis and Zira, which began on October 22 with the sending of a notice to the newspapers, in which they demanded the resignation of the government and elections with a different electoral law, ends ingloriously.

1925: The American, Fred Walter, patents the sandals of water skiing.

1927: The National Bank relinquishes its publishing privilege in favor of the newly established Bank of Greece.

1938: The chemical industry "Du Pont" announces the creation of a new synthetic yarn, which it calls nylon.

1968: Petros Galaktopoulos wins the bronze medal in the Greco-Roman wrestling in the 60 kg category at the Olympic Games in Mexico.

1971: Congo is renamed Zaire and founded the "Republic of Zaire".

1995: A Milan court has sentenced two former Italian prime ministers, Betino Craxi and Arnaldo Forlani, to life in prison on corruption charges for financing their party.

1997:  The drachma is under strong pressure due to the global stock market crisis that started in Hong Kong. The Bank of Greece has about one billion dollars to support it.

1998: Gerhard Schroeder becomes Chancellor of Germany.

1999: Gunmen stormed the Armenian parliament, killing Prime Minister Vazgan Sargisian, Parliament Speaker Garen Demirjian and six other lawmakers.

2005: The ILO is seeking back the medals of Marion Jones after she confessed to using banned substances.

2017:  Catalonia declares independence, which is not recognized by any state.
