On February 7 or 8, before the 10th of the coming month, Rosemary Di Carlo will have a meeting with President Christodoulides and they will discuss the issue of roadblocks, Ersin Tatar stated, announcing his candidacy for the upcoming "presidential elections."

In an interview with Yeni Bakis, the current Turkish Cypriot leader said that he will announce his candidacy in the coming period, saying that the work he has produced over the past 4 years is there and there may be people who do not love him, but he knows that the "people" support him. He clarified that he will be a candidate, something that in previous interviews or statements he left open as a possibility or linked it to the decisions of the KEE.

Referring to the Mia Milia and Louroudzina checkpoints, the opening of which he has proposed, he said that it would be an advantage for the Greek Cypriot side as well, noting that half of the crossings are made by Greek Cypriots. Mr. Tatar said that both the EU and the UN are looking favorably on the opening of new crossing points.

Referring to Varosha, he said that 3% of the fenced area has been converted into a civilian zone and there are applications for hotels that will revitalize the economy, and it is something he supports.

Moreover, in an interview on an online show on the Güdem website and responding to Mehmet Ali Talat who recently stated that when the current Turkish Cypriot leader says "sovereign equality" he does not know what he means, he commented: "What happened during the Annan Plan period is obvious. Even though 65% of us said yes, the promises were not fulfilled. Talat's bubble, which was then pursuing reunification policies, burst. We saw how true Denktash's statements were. Talat said that he did not know what I was saying. It is not nice that he made these statements in a Greek Cypriot newspaper."

If the Greek Cypriots, he argued, accepted political equality, perhaps an agreement could be reached, but not even in the talks before the Annan plan did the Greek Cypriots accept this. He raised the question: "Why should I defend something that has not been accepted for so many years?" He also reiterated his position that UN decisions and resolutions can change overnight, saying that "Cyprus is not the old Cyprus."
