The balancing of the number of air seats at the same levels as last year, amid the challenges in the aviation sector, sets the conditions for another very good tourism year provided that there will be no new unexpected developments in the Eastern Mediterranean region, said the Deputy Minister of Tourism Kostas Koumis.
In statements to the Parliament and asked about the prospects of this season, he said that he is not overly optimistic but realistic, given that "in terms of planning it has been and still remains a difficult year", since the conflict in the Eastern Mediterranean region still remains, while the the challenges in the field of aviation.
"I have a lot of experience in destination management and I don't ever remember so many problems clustered in the aviation sector," he said.
The Deputy Minister of Tourism explained that the challenges are related to a series of problematic aircraft engines, the many problems that one of the two giants in the aviation sector has, problems that have affected the flight programs of many companies.
"I am moderately optimistic for the reason that we have managed to balance the offered number of seats (capacity) that we had last year with this year, so yes the conditions are set for another very touristic year, as long as we do not have new unexpected situations in the Eastern Mediterranean region" , said Mr. Koumis and concluded: "We have the right to be optimistic about another very good tourism good year and I say that clearly."
