New historical record in monthly tourist arrivals in August

A new all-time record was set by tourist arrivals in August, which reached 554.923, surpassing the corresponding arrivals of August 2019, the record year for Cypriot tourism by 0,20%.

According to data published today by the Statistical Service, for the period January - August tourist arrivals amounted to 2.758.627 compared to 2.648.795 in the corresponding period of 2023, marking an increase of 4,1%.

Compared to last August's arrivals, last month's arrivals were up 8,5% year-on-year.

According to the Statistics Office, arrivals from the United Kingdom were the main source of tourism for August 2024, since they made up 34,7% (192.424) of total arrivals, arrivals from Israel 13,3% (74.032), the arrivals from Poland 7,7% (42.650), arrivals from Germany 4,2% (23.068) and arrivals from Sweden 4,1% (22.508).

3,6% reduction in trips by Cypriot residents

Besides, Cypriot residents' trips abroad in the same month amounted to 192.756 compared to 199.920 in August 2023, marking a decrease of 3,6%.

The main countries from which Cypriots returned in August 2024 were Greece with 39,1% (75.381), the United Kingdom with 6,6% (12.718), Russia with 4,4% (8.538) and Italy with 4,1% (7.926).
