Cyprus was and remains a safe and reliable destination for international investments, unhindered business activity and quality tourism, estimates the Executive Committee of the OEB, which met yesterday in a regular session and discussed developments.
In a statement issued by the OEB today, it is stated that maintaining stability, security and the smooth functioning of the economy is a top priority and a collective duty.
"The resilience of the Cypriot economy has been tested in recent years in extremely adverse conditions and has proven to be strong institutionally, functionally and operationally against all kinds of crises and international or regional geopolitical turmoil."
Sectors of the economy related to the tourism industry and businesses with export activity to Gulf countries and the wider Middle East (including pharmaceutical industries) are facing challenges, according to the OEB, which will be handled with prudence, composure and efficiency.
The Executive Committee of the OEB appeals to every Cypriot to contribute to clarifying the real picture regarding the country's security and eliminating false impressions created internationally during the first days of the military operations. As it states, we can tone down the public debate, bring the discussion back to everyday issues and our creative priorities and return to our normality as soon as possible.

Furthermore, OEB calls, as it states, for the immediate restoration of the planning and holding in Cyprus of all meetings, events and activities of the various European Union bodies that have been postponed, "on the basis of an incorrect assessment of the risk and exaggeration in the projection of events during the first days of the crisis."
As stated in the announcement, this request will be submitted personally by the President of the OEB, Giorgos Pantelidis, at a meeting he will have in Brussels next Wednesday, March 18, with the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, and the President of the European Council, Antonio Costa.
OEB concludes by stating that it will continue to systematically monitor developments in the region and actively contribute to the public debate with the aim of ensuring economic stability, protecting business activity and maintaining the sustainable development of the Cypriot economy.
