A call to all tourism professionals to continue to contribute to the vision of promoting peace and cooperation among peoples through tourism, offering high quality services and highlighting Cyprus as a peaceful, welcoming and progressive destination, addresses the President of the Pancypriot Association Hotelier (PASYXE) Thanos Michaelidis.

On the occasion of tomorrow's World Tourism Day, in his written statement, Mr. Michaelidis states that tourism and peace are interrelated concepts, as tourism can promote peace and understanding between peoples.

He notes that tourism, as one of the fastest growing sectors of the global economy, has the power to bring together people from different cultures, religions and cultures, enhancing mutual understanding and cooperation, while helping to cultivate a climate of respect. That is why this year, he points out, the events promoted by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) will be held under the slogan "Tourism and Peace" in Tbilisi, Georgia.

At the same time, he states that Cyprus, however, has repeatedly proven that it is a safe and attractive destination and despite the challenges, it has succeeded in maintaining the trust of tourists. "Thanks to the concerted effort of all involved entities, the tourism sector of our country has continued to develop, offering our visitors unique experiences and unforgettable moments," he states.

The statement of Mr. Michaelidis is the same

This year's celebrations for World Tourism Day, which has been established to be celebrated every year on September 27, are taking place under special circumstances. Tourism and peace are interrelated concepts, as tourism can promote peace and understanding between peoples.

Tourism, as one of the fastest growing sectors of the global economy, has the power to bring people of different cultures, religions and cultures together, fostering mutual understanding and cooperation while helping to foster a climate of respect. That is why again this year the events promoted by the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) will take place under the slogan "Tourism and Peace" in Tbilisi, Georgia.

To thrive, tourism requires peace and stability. The latest geopolitical developments and conflicts affecting various regions of the globe have created a wider regime of uncertainty and concern.

A climate that is also reflected in the habits of travelers, as in recent years, there has been an increasing trend in last-minute bookings.

Travelers prefer to wait until the conditions in the area they wish to travel to become clear to ensure that the regime is governed by security conditions.

However, Cyprus has proven time and time again that it is a safe and attractive destination and indeed, despite the challenges, we have succeeded in maintaining the confidence of tourists.

Thanks to the concerted effort of all involved entities, the tourism sector of our country has continued to develop, offering our visitors unique experiences and unforgettable moments.

In the context of this effort, the need for further digital upgrading of the visibility of our destination becomes imperative and more important than ever. Technology offers unlimited possibilities, which we must make the most of.

The rebranding of the tourism product of Cyprus is the cornerstone for our future strategy and its strengthening. A unified and dynamic approach is needed that will highlight the comparative and indisputable advantages of our island, through targeted digital campaigns in markets with growth prospects.

World Tourism Day 2024, with the theme 'Tourism and Peace', reminds us of the important contribution that travel and cultural exchange can make to promoting peace, understanding and cooperation between peoples. It is an opportunity to reflect on the role of tourism as a means of reconciliation and dialogue, especially in times of crisis.

For the Pancypriot Hotel Association, world peace is not just necessary for the prosperity of tourism. It is a prerequisite for sustainable and stable tourism development, which will benefit future generations.

We invite all tourism professionals to continue to contribute to this vision by offering high quality services and promoting Cyprus as a peaceful, welcoming and progressive destination.
