The United Kingdom High Commission, in collaboration with the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, is organizing a conference entitled "Safeguarding Cyprus' Tourism Industry", on Wednesday, November 26, 2025, at the City of Dreams Mediterranean, where the official presentation of the Counter-Terrorism E-Learning Program will take place.
A relevant press release states that this is the first official implementation of its kind in Europe and marks significant progress in the joint efforts of the United Kingdom and Cyprus to enhance public safety and preparedness in the tourism sector.
The programme has been developed by the UK Home Office specifically for the Deputy Minister of Tourism, as part of a strategic initiative to enhance protective security in Cyprus’ tourism infrastructure. It aims to equip professionals working in high-traffic areas, such as hotels, airports, ports, restaurants, bars, shopping centres and entertainment venues, with the necessary skills to identify and respond to serious threats, such as suspicious behaviour and dangerous objects, bomb threats, attacks with firearms and other weapons, as well as insider threats.
It is a practical preparedness tool for the entire sector, contributing to the effective management of incidents that may disrupt the operation of tourist accommodation or endanger public safety. By empowering frontline staff and managers, the program enhances the safety of visitors and employees, while at the same time strengthening Cyprus' position as a safe, resilient and high-quality tourist destination.
To ensure maximum accessibility and effectiveness, the program modules will be hosted on the official website of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism. They have been designed to be easily integrated into existing safety protocols and widely implemented in the industry, offering consistent and high-quality training at all levels.
The Director General of the Deputy Ministry of Tourism, Costas Constantinou, and the British High Commissioner, Michael Tatham, will welcome the event, which will also include discussions, testimonies and case studies highlighting the importance of preventive security and cross-sectoral collaboration. Participation in the conference is free.
