As a group, Toyota Europe (TME) continues to lead the race to reduce emissions in Europe, setting the lowest figures for its entire fleet, at 103.6 g / km for 2012. In the annual report published last week by the European Commission and the European Environment Agency, the average CO2 emissions of the company's car fleet for 2012 decreased by 5.7 g / km compared to 2011, which is a decrease of 5%. These recent emission figures are 24.3 g / km CO2 lower than the company's target, which is in line with the European Commission 's 2012 guidelines.

As determined by the current phase of the European Commission program, the rating is determined by 65% of the registered cars for each manufacturer. For the calculation of emissions for the next two years, this percentage will increase gradually - 75% in 2013 and 80% in 2014 - before becoming 100% in 2015.

According to the report, Toyota Europe's CO2 emissions have fallen by 29% in the last 12 years, reaching 121.9 g / km for 100% of its fleet, compared to an average overall reduction of 23% across the country. Europe during the same period.

TME is the steadfast leader of the automotive industry with the largest percentage of cars - reaching 23% of the company's fleet - with emissions below 100 g / km CO2.

Customers in Europe currently have a choice of 11 Toyota and Lexus models with CO2 emissions below 100 g / km - 6 of which emit less than 90 g / km - including: Toyota iQ (99 g / km), AYGO (99 g / km), Yaris Hybrid (79 g / km), Auris (99 g / km), Auris Hybrid (84 g / km), Auris Touring Sports Hybrid (85 g / km), Prius (89 g / km) km), Prius + (96 g / km), Hybrid Prius Plug-in (49 g / km), Lexus CT 200h (87 g / km) and IS 300h (99 g / km).

The European Environment Agency also said TME's lead in reducing emissions could be partly due to the company's growing supply of hybrid vehicles, which include six Toyota and six Lexus models.

In Europe as a whole (1), sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrid vehicles after the first 9 months, are already 47% higher compared to the same period in 2012 (78,380 vehicles). So far this year, sales of hybrid vehicles for TME have reached 115,032 units due to the good sales of the Yaris and Auris hybrids.

Michel Gardel, Vice President of TME for Communications, External and Environmental Affairs, commented: “We have reached a pivotal point in Europe. "The success of our hybrid sales is clear evidence that European customers prefer hybrid vehicles when it comes to choosing cars with alternative powertrains."

Since Toyota launched the Prius in the European market in 2000 and until the end of September 2013, total sales of hybrid vehicles have reached 620,588 units.

With sales of Toyota and Lexus hybrid models for this year growing to almost 20% of total sales across Europe, 2013 will be another step in the company's contribution to reducing CO2 emissions in Europe .
