Kougialis: “The water project Kokkinokremmos in Famagusta is a landmark (video & photos)

The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Mr. Nikos Kougialis, stated today that the Government is proceeding with the solution of the long-standing water supply problem of the Famagusta free area. The Minister of Agriculture spoke at an event held in the Municipality of Paralimni for the start of the implementation of the works of the water project "Kokkinokremmos".

Describing the project as a milestone for the region, the Minister stated that "this is one of the most important infrastructure projects in the region, inextricably linked to the economy of free Famagusta and the prosperity and progress of its inhabitants."

"Since the takeover of the place by Nikos Anastasiadis, we have said that we will retrieve all the problems that we had hidden under the carpet for years to solve many of them," she said, expressing great joy because with the start of the works, her Commitments Government implemented.

With this project, the Minister of Agriculture stated, "we solve problems, face timeless challenges, support the development of local communities and improve living conditions in the region."

With the completion of this project, an uninterrupted supply of water to the region is ensured, the tourism industry is supported and infrastructure and conditions are created for the further development of the tourism industry.

The project "Kokkinokremmos" with a budget of € 17m., Includes a pipeline 26km from the desalination of Dhekelia to the area Kokkinokremmos, and 40,000m3 tanks where its completion ensures the water safety of the area for 18 hours.

The Municipalities of Paralimni, Ayia Napa, Deryneia and Sotira as well as the other communities of Kokkinochoria, ie Ormidia, Xylofagou, Avgorou and Frenaros will benefit from this project.

Finally, Mr. Kougialis stated that the Government proves that the development and prosperity of the free province of Famagusta are a priority for the government of Nikos Anastasiadis.

It is with great pleasure that I welcome you to today's event organized on the occasion of the start of the works of the water project Kokkinokremmos, a landmark project for the region.


Since the takeover of the place by Nikos Anastasiadis, we have said that we will bring back all the problems that we had for years hidden under the carpet to solve many of them.


Now is the time to solve the problem of water supply in the free area of ​​Famagusta, as I promised you two years ago, and it is my great joy today because we are starting the construction works and because our commitments are being implemented.


I have said that the Kokkinokremmos project is a landmark, as it is one of the most important infrastructure projects in the region, which is inextricably linked to the economy of free Famagusta and to the prosperity and progress of its inhabitants.


With the completion of this project we ensure the uninterrupted supply of water in the area, we support our tourism industry and we create those infrastructures and conditions to further develop our tourism industry to receive even more visitors.
