The existing monument was erected in 1984 after an effort by the Committee of Relatives of the Fallen and Missing Savior and the Catechism Meetings of the Savior and at a recent meeting of the Municipal Monuments Committee decided to radically redesign the monument.
The aim was to highlight the specific monument, since it is located in an area that includes the historic First Elementary School Sotira, the Museum of Memory of the Struggle EOKA '55 -'59, the ecclesiastical museum Sotira and the Holy Temples of the Transfiguration of the Savior, ie the 12th century old and the newest built in the 50's.
The whole planning and supervision of the renovation of the monument was undertaken by the Monuments Committee of the Municipality of Sotiras, which consists of the Mayor, the Chairman of the Culture Committee of the Municipality, the member of the Municipal Council, the Cultural Officer, the Elder George Ioannou and the artist Sergis Sergiou.
The artist Sergis Sergiou and the sculptor Filippos Giapanis undertook the creation of the monument on a non-profit basis. Assistance in the renovation of the monument was offered by the Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Overseas Affairs Fotis Fotiou.
Great financial support and participation in the whole process was provided by the Committee of the Monument of Relatives of the Fallen and Missing Savior, which has been continuously organizing fundraisers for the last 41 years for the purpose of preserving or renovating the monument.
It is noted that the missing persons of the Municipality of Sotira are Georgios Athanasis, Adamos Englezou, Efstathios Efstathiou, Costas Lysis, Panagiotis Paschalis and Georgios Patsis. The victims are Christofis Anastasis, Michalakis Theodoulou, Kyriakos Nikolettis, Antonis Pantelis and Kyriakos Potamou.
