Mass poisonings of dogs occurred during the first hunting expedition for the hare and the partridge. The problem was particularly acute in Akamas, where dozens of dogs died painfully from the nests.

The situation with the nests that scatter unconsciously in permitted hunting areas is now out of control.

This is a matter of great concern to hunters and the Police, since from the very first expedition for the hare and the partridge, dozens of hunting dogs were found horribly dead in the countryside.

Typical are the cases of two groups of hunters, who lost in a short time 14 dogs worth several thousand euros.

The poisons were scattered in various places in the Akamas Peninsula and are estimated to have been dumped on Saturday morning or afternoon to be effective.

The scene was similar in the meantime in various other areas of Cyprus.

The poisoning of dogs was strongly condemned by the Thera Fund, which warns the guilty with severe punishments.

Last night, meanwhile, four people were arrested by gamekeepers for hunting hares in the area of Nicosia airport.

In their possession were found three freshly killed hares and a shotgun.
